Factory-Built Fireplaces

We Also Provide Cleaning & Sweeping Services For Factory-Built Fireplaces!

Factory-built fireplaces are designed to be highly efficient, but they still produce byproducts and deposits, and these appliances and chimneys still need regular cleaning. Depending on your use, Old Hat Chimney Service can help you develop a sweeping appointment schedule that keeps your system performing in top shape.

The Difference Between Factory-built And Masonry Chimney Systems

Factory-built or prefabricated fireplaces and chimneys are similar to traditional masonry chimney systems in certain ways, very different in others. They’re both creating heat via combustion, and that combustion is creating byproducts that will make cleaning a necessity. But the construction, installation and emissions are different, which makes regular maintenance processes a little different, too.

Prefabricated fireplaces and chimneys are constructed in a factory, and designed and tested to work as a cohesive unit. They’re generally highly efficient, with low levels of fuel waste. Instead of being built out of bricks and mortar, prefabricated units are generally built with metal and glass, which makes them lighter, durable and generally very affordable, as well.

That said, acids are present in the byproducts left along a factory-built chimney, and failure to remove those deposits regularly can contribute to a shorter service life. For this reason, the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) recommends that factory-built chimneys be cleaned when “appreciable build-up” is noted.

Regardless of the type of chimney we’re cleaning, Old Hat Chimney Service technicians always use industry-leading tools, including high-powered HEPA-filtered vacuums. And our technicians always put extra effort toward protecting your home, to ensure that no soot or dirt is transferred to the floors or area around your fireplace.

How Do I Know If My System Needs Cleaning?

Both the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) recommend that home and business owners have their fireplaces and chimneys — including prefabricated ones – professionally inspected every year. During a proper Level 1 chimney inspection, your Old Hat Chimney Service technician will check for damage, obstructions and other potential hazards within your system, and will also let you know if your system needs to be cleaned. It may not be necessary to have your factory-built chimney cleaned every year, but an inspection can let you know when it’s time.
